clJTB: Japanese Temari Beginner Class



Temari are a folk-art form that originated in China and was introduced to Japan five or six hundred years ago. "Temari" means "handball" (Te is hand and Mari is ball).  Sometimes called a “mother’s love ball” in its most recent history, temari were toy balls made for very young children, containing “noisemakers” to add to the play value.  Today, temari are a traditional New Year’s Day gifts for children.

Supplies:  Kit  (cost is $20 and will include everything needed. They will be purchased from instructor.)

You will also need: lunch, drink, snacks are optional

Instructor Bio:
Cindy fell in love with Swedish Weaving (SW) in 2001. She quickly became active in the SW community through online and local groups, annual conferences, designing and publishing patterns for sale. Since retirement from a technical career with IBM Corporation, Cindy has explored many different crafts. While SW remains her passion, she is also drawn toward the more unusual crafts such as temari (Japanese thread balls), locker hooking, fabric flowers, dolls gourds, and all aspects of embroidery, beading and jewelry making.
