clEPP: English Paper Piecing Table Runner



In class we will discuss the recommended tools such as thread, templates, needles.  The instructor will demonstrate her technique, explain the pattern, share other available resources, and assist students in getting started.

Since EPP is done by hand, the project won't be completed in class.  Students will finish the project on their own at their own pace.

To Bring to class:
  • 1 Honeycomb precut pack OR 1 charm pack OR 26 Fat eights OR equivalent scrap fabrics
  • 1 pkg of 100 1" Hexie papers
  • marking pen or pencil
  • Glue stick (recommend Sewline Fabric Glue Pen)
  • small or mini Wonder Clips
  • 4"-12" ruler with 1/4" and 3/8" markings
  • 50-80 wt. cotton thread in coordinating color(s)
  • Between hand sewing needles, assorted sizes 9-12
  • Seam ripper
  • Needle threader
  • Small rotary cutter (recommend 28 mm size)
  • Small rotary cutting mat (recommend 8" rotating mat) 
  • Fabric scissors
  • Thimble (recommend Thimble It clear stick on)

To complete the project:
  • 1 1/2 yd of background and backing fabric
  • 2 additional pkgs. of 100 1" Hexie papers
  • 20" x 53" piece of batting
  • Stilletto or Purple Thang
In addition, some nice to have but not required tools are:
  • Single paper hole punch
  • Sew tites magnets

English Paper Piecing is done by hand. To finish the table runner project, use of a sewing machine is helpful.
